Richard Watson, a proud Mansfield native and Mansfield High School alumnus, built an impressive 32-year career as a sports administrator in cricket. His journey saw him rise through senior management and executive roles with interstate associations, Cricket Australia, and the International Cricket Council, leaving a lasting mark on the sport.

But Richard’s creative spirit couldn’t be contained. In 1999, he embraced his lifelong love for art by founding the Mansfield Easter Art Show, a now-iconic local event.

Richard’s passion for the arts flourished further in 2003 when he launched the Maling Road Gallery in Canterbury. This venture grew into a thriving legacy, with galleries in Hawthorn and Mansfield, and his influential tenure as Manager of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists. Adding to his achievements, Richard spent five years as Director of Exhibitions at Without Pier Gallery in Cheltenham.

Over the years, he cultivated strong connections with artists, galleries, and art communities across Victoria and beyond. His expertise has been sought as a judge for prestigious art awards, including the ANL Maritime Art Prize, the Victorian Artists Society Artist of the Year, and the Australian Equine Art Prize in 2019.
Now back in his beloved Mansfield region, Richard resides in Barwite, continuing to inspire and contribute to the community he holds dear.
